Dr. Michael Townsend is a board-certified physician with a wide range of experience in caring for both adults and children. He has lived and studied in Ecuador and Peru and is passionate about providing personalized care in both English and Spanish, no matter what phase of life you are facing.
After completing his medical residency, he became board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and was named chief resident of his department, leading the primary care experience and medical education of all the other residents. He spent the next decade at Johns Hopkins, caring for hospitalized adults and providing primary care pediatric patients.
Since moving back to West Michigan to be closer to family in 2023, he has focused on being the primary parent for his three school-aged boys, volunteering as a primary care physician for Spanish-Speaking patients at Exalta Health, and remodeling his home built in the 1890s. His wife is a practicing physician specializing in Infectious Disease, as well as an avid gardener and forager. He will be completing a Fellowship in Addiction Medicine in 2027 and enjoys performing with the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys and paddling Michigan waterways.
